De bus richting Cameron Highlands ging zaterdagochtend vroeg. Na aankomst zo’n 4 uur later ingecheckt in het hotel, wat niet veel meer was dan een klein kamertje waarbij het leek alsof er zo’n 15 jaar geen onderhoud aan was gepleegd. Het was dan ook heel goedkoop. Er was nog tijd voor een flinke hike en bij navraag bij de lokale toeristenkiosk – Hike trail nummer 10 opgepakt. Eerste stukje ging door “Tan’s Camellia Garden”, een bloementuin onderhouden door een local aldaar. Na zo’n drie kwartier stijl omhoog en een kilo zweet lichter was dit het uitzicht:
Bijzonder chill en zeer mooi en rustgevend. Tijdje later weer naar beneden en gegeten bij #1 TripAdvisor restaurant “Singh Chapati”. Lekkere Chicken Butter Tika Masala, maar vol met bot. Daarna naar de “Travellers Bistro & Pub”, waar het zo rustig was, dat ik na het eerste biertje terug naar het hotel ben gegaan.
De volgende ochtend met “Adventure tour 1” mee geweest, die ons naar de volgende hotspots heeft gebracht:
- Theeplantage
- Hoogste punt van de omgeving
- Theefabriek
- Vlinder- en insectenboerderij
- Aardbeienboerderij
Super handig, want met maar twee dagen de tijd, was een minibusje om van plek naar plek te worden vervoerd (met hier en daar wat uitleg onderweg) ideaal. Eind van de middag naar de “Bharat Tea Plantations” geweest, wat de meest bekende theeplantage is in de buurt. Kopje thee gedronken en liftend weer naar de bus. Prima weekend in de natuur en absoluut een aanrader als je heel erg van thee houdt.

The bus to Cameron Highlands went in the morning on Saturday. After a 4 hours drive, we arrived at the hotel. The room was very small and could definitely use some proper maintenance, but what could you expect from such a cheap hotel? There was still time enough for a big hike, so after enquiring at the local tourist information kiosk, I went to Hike trail number 10. It starts behind “Tan’s Camellia Garden”, a local flower garden maintained a private owner. After 45 minutes rather steep hiking up a mountain, you’d get the view in the video.
Very beautiful and a very scenic view, very worth wile! After that a smooth descending down and got to the #1 TripAdvisor restaurant “Singh Chapati”. Got a very nice Chicken Butter Tika Masala, including half a chicken of bones. After that to the “Travellers Bistro & Pub”, where I couldn’t stay longer than one beer, because there was no one around there. Went to bed early and had a good nights sleep for the next day.
Also early in the morning, I got on a minivan and joined “Adventure tour 1”. This took me to some highlights in the area, which is ideal if you only got two days in Cameron Highlands. Highlights were:
- Tea plantage
- Highest point in the area
- Tea factory
- Butterfly and insect farm
- Strawberry farm
At the end of the day I visited the “Bharat Tea Plantations”, a very well known tea plantage in Tanah Rata. I had a cup of tea and after that I lifted back to the bus station. Very nice weekend if you’re a fan of nature and fancy a cup of tea now and then.
